I brani proposti in questo cd sono il frutto di studi e ricerche approfondite di capolavori provenienti dalla vastissima letteratura organistica scritta in Germania nei sec. XVII e XVIII. L’intonazione studiata e adottata su questo organo particolare, ispirato al grande Gottfried Silbermann e la scelta del temperamento, che molto probabilmente fu adottato su vari organi dell’epoca, come per esempio ci suggerisce l’analisi attenta del contrappunto e delle armonie usate nelle composizioni per tastiera dal grande Johann Sebastian Bach, hanno suscitato quell’interesse e quell’entusiasmo che mi hanno portato con determinazione alla realizzazione di questo progetto discografico che, certamente, non si esaurisce con questa registrazione. I registri scelti, nelle composizioni qui eseguite, rendono gradevole l’ascolto anche nei passaggi armonici definiti “più duri”, derivanti dal temperamento non equabile e inoltre offrono una panoramica sonora completa sui dettagli dell’intonazione delle canne che, secondo la natura e il linguaggio dei registri, ne rendono ancor più chiaro e comprensibile il discorso musicale. Infine, la varietà timbrica di questo strumento, crea un unicum di emozioni e di colori sonori che, come per magia, ci tuffa nel passato.

Il Nuovo Organo del Santuario
della Madonna di Mangher
Vallio Terme (Bs)

Il nuovo organo per il Santuario di Vallio Terme, a trasmissione meccanica, è ispirato fortemente alla produzione del celebre organaro Gottfried Silbermann, che operò in Germania nella prima metà del XVIII secolo a stretto contatto con Johann Sebastian Bach. Non si tratta però di una copia, ma di un progetto totalmente originale che affianca alle particolari sonorità delle canne realizzate secondo le specifiche costruttive e le misure adottate da Silbermann, soluzioni costruttive che potremmo definire “Lombarde”, perchè derivanti dall’esperienza di un restauratore d’organi comasco che opera da diversi anni sugli strumenti dei maestri organari dei secoli passati. Un solo somiere, munito di due secrete, reca i registri di entrambe le tastiere; i ventilabri relativi ad una tastiera sono contrapposti a quelli dell’altra. L’organo è interamente accordabile dall’interno. Le soluzioni estetiche adottate per l’intera progettazione architettonica e la sua decorazione sono frutto del desiderio di ottenere la miglior integrazione possibile fra lo strumento e l’edificio di culto, senza per questo realizzare un falso. L’organo è stato posto a sinistra della navata, a livello del pavimento e la larghezza del basamento della cassa è contenuta entro lo spazio esistente a destra della porta, mentre quella della parte superiore è pari alla metà dell’ampiezza della parete. Per quanto concerne le valutazioni sulla propagazione del suono, date le ridotte dimensioni dell’edificio e le sue ottime caratteristiche acustiche, la collocazione delle bocche delle canne ad una altezza di circa tre metri dal livello del pavimento consente di raggiungere ogni ascoltatore senza risultare di disturbo a chi si trova a minor distanza dall’organo.

ILIC COLZANI ha studiato organaria a Crema (CR) ed ha svolto il suo apprendistato nella stessa città presso la storica ditta Inzoli. Nel 2000 ha aperto il proprio laboratorio organario e nel 2010, insieme a Ettore Bastici, ha costituito la società Colzani Organi snc a Bulgarograsso (CO). Al suo attivo ha numerosi restauri di strumenti di varie epoche e di notevole pregio in Italia ed in Svizzera, oltre alla costruzione di alcuni strumenti nuovi ispirati a diverse scuole organarie. Dal 2011 Ilic Colzani è membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione della Associazione Italiana Organari (AIO) e nel 2017 ne è stato eletto Presidente.

The pieces proposed in this CD are the result of studies and in-depth research of masterpieces from the vast organ literature written in Germany in the XVII and XVIII century. The intonation studied and adopted on this particular organ, inspired by the great Gottfried Silbermann and the choice of temperament, which was most probably adopted on various organs of the time, as for example suggests to us the careful analysis of the counterpoint and the harmonies used in the keyboard compositions by the great Johann Sebastian Bach, aroused that interest and enthusiasm that led me with determination to the realization of this recording project that, certainly, does not end with this recording. The chosen registers, in the compositions performed here, make it pleasant to listen to even in the harmonic passages defined as “harder”, deriving from the unequal temperament and also offer a complete sound overview of the details of the pitch of the pipes which, according to the nature and the register language, make the musical discourse even more clear and understandable. Finally, the timbre variety of this instrument creates a unicum of emotions and sonorous colors which, as if by magic, plunges us into the past.

The New Organ of the Sanctuary
of the Madonna of Mangher
in Vallio Terme (Bs)

The new organ for the Sanctuary of Vallio Terme, with mechanical transmission, is strongly inspired by the production of the famous organ builder Gottfried Silbermann, who worked in Germany in the first half of the 18th century in close contact with Johann Sebastian Bach. But this is not a copy, but a totally original project that combines the particular sounds of the pipes made according to the construction specifications and the measures adopted by Silbermann, constructive solutions that we could define as “Lombarde”, because they derive from the experience of a restorer of organs from Como (in Lombardy) who has been operating for several years on the instruments of the master organ builders of past centuries. A single soundboard, equipped with two secrets, bears the registers of both keyboards; the ventilators relative to one keyboard are opposed to those of the other. The organ can be entirely tuned from the inside. The aesthetic solutions adopted for the entire architectural design and its decoration are the result of the desire to obtain the best possible integration between the instrument and the building of worship, without creating a forgery. The organ was placed to the left of the nave, at floor level and the width of the base of the case is contained within the space existing to the right of the door, while that of the upper part is equal to half the width of the wall. As regards the sound propagation valuations, given the small size of the building and its excellent acoustic characteristics, the location of the mouths of the pipesat a height of about three meters from the floor level allow each listener to be reached without being disturbing to those who are closer to the organ.

ILIC COLZANI studied organ builders in Crema, Italy, and completed his apprenticeship in the same city at the historic Inzoli company. In 2000 he opened his own organ workshop and in 2010, together with Ettore Bastici, he set up the company Colzani Organi snc in Bulgarograsso, Como Italy. To his credit, he has numerous instrument restorations of various epochs and of considerable value in Italy and Switzerland, as well as the construction of some new instruments inspired by different organ schools. Since 2011 Ilic Colzani has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Organari Association (AIO) and in 2017 he was elected President.

der Madonna di Mangher in Vall io Terme (Brescia, Norditalien)

Die mit mechanischer Übertragung versehene neue Orgel der Wallfahrtskirche in Vallio Terme ist stark geprägt durch das Werk des berühmten Orgelbauers Gottfried Silbermann, der im Deutschland der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts in engem Kontakt mit Johann Sebastian Bach tätig war. Es handelt es sich jedoch um keine Kopie, sondern um ein völlig eigenständiges Projekt, das die besondere Klangfülle der Pfeifen, die nach baulichen Auflagen und den Vorgaben von Silbermann hergestellt wurden, mit Konstruktionslösungen kombiniert, die wir „lombardisch“ nennen könnten, da sie aus der Erfahrung eines Orgelrestaurators aus Como entstanden sind, welcher sich seit mehreren Jahren mit den Instrumenten der Orgelbaumeistern der vergangenen Jahrhunderte beschäftigt. Ein einziger Magazinbalg, mit zwei Windkanälen ausgestattet, trägt die Register beider Tastaturen. Die Gebläse einer Tastatur sind den des anderen Manuals gegenüber positioniert. Die Orgel ist komplett von innen stimm bar. Die ästhetische Gestaltungslösungen für das gesamte architektonische Projekt und dessen Verzierung sind das Ergebnis des Bestrebens, die bestmögliche Integration zwischen Instrument und Gotteshaus zu erreichen, ohne dass eine Art Verfälschung entsteht. Die Orgel befindet sich links vom Kirchenschiff auf Bodenhöhe, und die Breite ihres Gehäuses entspricht dem Raum rechts von der Tür, während die Breite des oberen Teils der halben Wandbreite entspricht. Aufgrund der geringen Maße des Gebäudes und seiner hervorragenden akustischen Eigenschaften wurden die Pfeifenmünder ungefähr drei Meter über dem Boden positioniert, so, dass jeder Zuhörer leicht erreicht werden kann, ohne diejenigen zu stören, die sich näher an der Orgel befinden.
 

ILIC COLZANI studierte Orgelbau in Crema (Italien) und absolvierte dort auch seine Lehre bei der alteingesessenen Firma Inzoli. Im Jahre 2000 eröffnete er eine eigene Orgelbauwerkstatt und gründete 2010 gemeinsam mit Ettore Bastici die Firma „Colzani Organi snc„ in Bulgarograsso, Como (Italien). Zu seinen bisherigen Tätigkeiten zählen einerseits zahlreiche Restaurationen von wertvollen Instrumenten aus verschiedenen Epochen sowohl in Italien als auch in der Schweiz, andererseits der Bau einiger neuer Instrumente, die von unterschiedlichen Orgelbauschulen inspiriert wurden. Seit 2011 ist Ilic Colzani Mitglied des Verwaltungsrats des Italienischen Vereins der Orgelbauer namens „Associazione Italiana Organari“ (abgekürzt AIO) und wurde 2017 zu dessen Vorsitzenden gewählt.

 Nato a Gavardo (BS) nel 1973, ha iniziato lo studio del Pianoforte all’età di sei anni, per passare più tardi allo studio dell’organo presso il Conservatorio Statale di Musica di Brescia. Nel 1996 ha conseguito il diploma in Organo e Composizione organistica con il massimo dei voti, sotto la guida del M° Roberto Zarpellon, del M° T. Ziliani e terminato con il M° Giorgio Benati presso il Conservatorio Statale di Musica “L. Marenzio” di Brescia. Ha partecipato a numerosi corsi d’ interpretazione organistica (M. Radulescu, A. Mitterhofer†, H. Vogel) e prassi esecutiva della musica rinascimentale e barocca. Nel 1996 vince il concorso per accedere alla prestigiosa “Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst”, poi divenuta Universität für Musik di Vienna (Austria) e dal 1996 al 2001 si perfeziona quindi in “Orgelkonzertfach” (facoltà di Organo da concerto), sotto la direzione del Prof. Alfred Mitterhofer† e poi con il Prof. Roman Summereder. Unitamente agli studi organistici, affianca lo studio del clavicembalo e b.c. con la Prof. Augusta Campagne e si perfeziona inoltre in Direzione di Coro ed Orchestra. Ha inoltre suonato con importanti formazioni vocali e strumentali e da anni collabora con l’Orchestra da Camera “L. da Ponte” e il Coro “Reale Corte Armonica C. Cornaro” con i quali ha eseguito come continuista opere come Jephte di G. Carissimi, Messiah di G.F. Händel, Messa in si min., Magnificat e alcune cantate di J.S. Bach, Krönungsmesse, Große Credo-Messe, Requiem di W.A. Mozart, Messa D 167 di F. Schubert, sotto la direzione di Maestri quali H. Winking, R. Zarpellon, M. Radulescu. Come solista vanta al suo attivo numerosissimi concerti inItalia e all’estero suonando per importanti festival in Italia e in Europa, registrando per le emittenti radio WDR e RAI. Dal 1996 al 2009 è stato organista titolare all’organo G. Antegnati (1581) presso la chiesa di S. Giuseppe in Brescia, mentre è tuttora titolare sugli organi A. Bonatti (1760) e I. Colzani (2008) della Parrocchiale e del Santuario in Vallio Terme (BS). Ha effettuato registrazioni CD su organi storici e moderni di particolare interesse nazionale ed internazionale, interpretando repertori che spaziano dal rinascimento al tardo barocco. Per molti anni è stato Direttore artistico dell’“Estate musicale” in Vallio Terme. Dal 2001 al 2008 è stato Direttore dell’Orchestra da Camera “Valsabbina”. Da molti anni è Direttore del Coro “La Valle” di Vallio Terme, con la quale è spesso invitato a esibirsi in vari eventi concertistici. Insegna Educazione musicale e canto corale presso la Scuola Parrocchiale Ss. Filippo e Giacomo in Gavardo (BS). È stato invitato a suonare nello stato del Vaticano presso la Basilica di S. Pietro e ha tenuto concerti sul grande organo Mascioni presso l’Istituto Pontificio di musica sacra di Roma.

MASSIMILIANO SANCA, was born in Gavardo (BS) in 1973, began studying piano at the age of six, later moving on to the study of the organ at the Brescia State Conservatory of Music. In 1996 he received his diploma in Organ and Organ Composition with full marks, under the guidance of Maestro Roberto Zarpellon, of Maestro T. Ziliani and finished with Maestro Giorgio Benati at the Conservatorio “L. Marenzio” of Brescia. He has participated in numerous organ interpretation courses (M. Radulescu, A. Mitterhofer †, H. Vogel) and performance practice of Renaissance and Baroque music. In 1996 he won the competition to enter the prestigious “Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst”, which later became the Universität für Musik of Vienna (Austria) and from 1996 to 2001 he continued studies in “Orgelkonzertfach” (Concert organ department), under the direction of Prof. Alfred Mitterhofer † and then with Prof. Roman Summereder. Together with the organ studies, he studied harpsichord and basso continuo with Prof. Augusta Campagne and also took master classes in Chorus Direction and Orchestra. He has also played with important vocal and instrumental ensembles and has been collaborating with the Chamber Orchestra “L. da Ponte” and the Choir “Reale Corte Armonica C. Cornaro” with which he performed works such as Jephte by G. Carissimi, Messiah of G.F. Händel, Mass in f minor, Magnificat, and cantatas by J.S. Bach, Krönungsmesse, Große Credo-Messe, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, and Messa D 167 by F. Schubert, under the direction of Masters such as H. Winking, R. Zarpellon, M. Radulescu. As a soloist he has to his credit numerous concerts in Italy and abroad playing for important festivals in Italy and Europe, recording for the radios WDR and RAI. From 1996 to 2009 he was the organist on the G. Antegnati organ (1581) at the church of San Giuseppe in Brescia, while he is still the performer of the A. Bonatti (1760) and I. Colzani (2008) organs of the Parish and Sanctuary in Vallio Terme (BS). He has made CD recordings on historical and modern organs of particular national and international interest, interpreting repertoires ranging from the Renaissance to the late Baroque. For many years he was Artistic Director of “Summer Music” in VallioTerme. From 2001 to 2008 he was Director of the “Valsabbina” Chamber Orchestra. For many years he has been the Director of the La Valle Choir of Vallio Terme, with whom he is often invited to perform at various concert events. He teaches musical education and choral singing at the Parish School of Ss. Filippo and Giacomo in Gavardo (BS). He was invited to play in the Vatican State at St. Peter’s Basilica and gave concerts on the great Mascioni organ at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome.

MASSIMILIANO SANCA, geboren 1973 in Gavardo (BS), begann schon im Alter von sechs Jahren mit Klavier- und danach zusätzlich mit Orgelunterricht am staatlichen Konservatorium von Brescia. Im Jahre 1996 erhielt er von Maestro Roberto Zarpellon bzw. Maestro T. Ziliani sein Diplom für Orgel und Orgelkomposition mit Auszeichnung.
Er vollendete seine musikalische Ausbildung unter Maestro Giorgio Benati an der Hochschule für Musik „L. Marenzio“ in Brescia. In dieser Zeit hat er bereits an zahlreichen Orgelinterpretationskursen (M. Radulescu, A. Mitterhofer †, H. Vogel) und Aufführungspraktika zur Renaissance- und Barockmusik teilgenommen.
1996 gewann er den Aufnahmewettbewerb für die renommierte „Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien „, deren Name später in „Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien“ umgewandelt wurde.
Von 1996 bis 2001 perfektionierte er sich im „Orgelkonzertfach“ (Fakultät für Konzertorgel) unter der Leitung von Prof. Alfred Mitterhofer † und Prof. Roman Summereder. Gleichzeitig spezialisierte er sich auf Cembalo und Generalbass (oder Basso Continuo – Stimme, abgekürzt B. C.) mit der Unterstützung von Prof. Augusta Campagne und auf Chor- und Orchesterleitung.
Außerdem spielte er zusammen mit bekannten Gesangs- und Instrumentalensembles und arbeitete mit dem Kammerorchester „Lorenzo da Ponte“ und dem Chor „Reale Corte Armonica C. Cornaro“ zusammen, wobei er als Continuist bei den Aufführungen einer Vielfalt von Werken wie – u. a.“Jephte“ von G. Carissimi; „Messias“ von G. F. Händel;„Messe in S Min“, „Magnificat“ und einige „Kantaten“ von J. S. Bach; “Krönungsmesse“, „Große Credo-Messe“, „Requiem“ von W. A. Mozart; „Messe D 167“ von F. Schubert - unter der Leitung von Maestri wie H. Winking, R. Zarpellon, M. Radulescu mitwirkte.
Als Solist hat er zahlreiche Konzerte auf wichtigen Festivals in Italien und in ganz Europa gegeben, die für die Radiosender WDR und RAI aufgenommen wurden. Von 1996 bis 2009 war er Organist an der Orgel von G. Antegnati (1581) in der Kirche zum Heiligen Joseph in Brescia. Er ist immer noch Organist an den Orgeln A. Bonatti (1760) und I. Colzani (2008) zu der Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche in Vallio Terme (Brescia, Italien).
Er hat mit historischen und modernen Orgeln von besonderem Interesse sowohl auf nationaler als auch auf internationaler Ebene CDs aufgenommen und dabei Repertoires von der Renaissance bis zum Spätbarock interpretiert. Er war viele mehrere Jahre künstlerischer Leiter des „Sommermusikfestivals“ in Vallio Terme.
Von 2001 bis 2008 war er als Direktor des Kammerorchesters „Valsabbina“ tätig. Seit vielen Jahren ist er Direktor des Chores „La Valle“ in Vallio Terme, mit dem er häufig zu verschiedenen Konzertveranstaltungen eingeladen ist. Er lehrt Musikausbildung und Chorgesang an der Pfarrschule zu den Heiligen Philipp und Jakob in Gavardo (BS). Er wurde eingeladen, im Vatikanstaat im Petersdom zu spielen. und gab Konzerte auf der großen Orgel von Mascioni am Päpstlichen Institut für Kirchenmusik in Rom.
