The MV Cremona label was founded in 1999 by founder and artistic director Marcello Villa, with the aim of contributing to the dissemination of early, baroque, and classical Italian music through CD releases. Starting with the city of Cremona and its particularly rich musical heritage, the aim was to explore the relationship between the city and the extraordinary importance of its violin-making tradition, a key player in the musical evolution that saw the violin become the protagonist of instrumental music. Over the years, MV Cremona has expanded its horizons, offering both monographic titles and miscellaneous albums dedicated to a wide variety of composers, genres, and historical periods, with a particular focus on the rediscovery of unreleased repertoire. A significant collaboration began in 2017 with the Cremona Violin Museum, which has led to the production of several CDs featuring some of the city's wonderful Stradivari and Amati instruments from its collection.
